Numbing "difficult" teeth
Every dentist runs into teeth that are hard to numb. In a recent lecture by Dr. Stephen Cohen, I learned a trick that will help dentists overcome this problem. Simply give PDL injections at all 4 corners of the tooth in question--at ML, MB, DL, and DB. Please let me know how this works out for everyone. Best, Josh

Numbing "Difficult" Teeth
I tried this technique this past week on 2 different patients who were historically very difficult to numb. In both cases, the teeth were lower 2nd molars. I used this technique and got profound anesthesia on the first try. I was really pleased and so were the patients. I used 1/4 carp of Septocaine at each of the 4 corners of the tooth in the PDL. Worked like a charm! Give this technique a try next time you have a tooth that is hard to numb.

I use the Stabident system when I run into a tooth that doesn't achieve adequate anesthesia. There is no pain during the injection process for this technique and there is rapid onset of anesthesia but short lived, about 20 min. That usually does the trick but I am going to give the 4 corner pdl technique a try at the next opportunity.
